Multi-tiered Positive Behavior Supports are required by law in New Mexico. In other words, the implementation of school-wide positive behavioral supports or tiered frameworks in New Mexico school districts is required.

This regulation defines RTI and addresses the naming conventions of RTI frameworks in New Mexico being called “the three-tier model of student intervention”.

School Climate Surveys
Required
School climate surveys are required by laws in New Mexico. In other words, districts are required by state law, regulation, or district policy to administer school climate surveys.
New Mexico Administrative Code 6.19.8.7 Definitions
This regulation states that a “school survey” means an indicator of:
- student and family engagement,
- educator collaboration and engagement, and
- other important components
and that they should address
- school climate
- rigorous expectations
- student-teacher relationships
- belonging, and
- safety.

New Mexico Administrative Code 6.19.8.8 Requirements
This regulation states that in New Mexico, public schools earn a grade of either A, B, C, D, or F annually.
The following indicators are assessed:
- student growth,
- chronic absenteeism,
- school survey,
- ELL progress,
- graduation rate (in High schools),
- and more.
